MONICA ABBOTT WINS NPF PITCHER OF THE YEAR

At the annual National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) Awards Banquest yesterday, Monica Abbott won her third straight NFP Pitcher of the Year Award.

The former Lady Vol posted over 200 strikeouts for the third time in her career with 213, more than 100 more than the runner-up, and was second in the league in ERA at 1.096. She posted a 17-3 record with two saves for the Scrap Yard Dawgs, who are currently among four teams in the NPF playoffs.

This is Monica’s third straight Pitcher of the Year Award, and second consecutive honor after signing a record 6-year, $1 million contract with the Scrap Yard Dawgs in 2016.

Prior to entering the Pros, Abbott shattered records in the NCAA during her four years at the University of Tennessee (2003-2007). She was a four time NFCA First Team All-American, a four-time All-SEC Selection, and the only three-time SEC Pitcher of the Year in history. In 2004 she was named SEC Freshman of the Year and then as a senior in 2007 she was named the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. In addition to these awards, Abbott holds NCAA Division 1 records for career strikeouts (2,440), wins (189), shutouts (112), appearances (253) and single-season strikeouts (724).

Congratulations on another outstanding year, Monica!
