Astros sign Ryan Pressly to record-setting extension
On March 20, the Houston Astros announced a contract extension with reliever Ryan Pressly, a two-year, $17.5 million contract extension with a vesting club option for a third season.
The extension is the largest in both total money and average annual value for a reliever who is not a closer.
Acquired mid-season in a trade from the Minnesota Twins last year, Pressly has emerged as one of the best relievers in baseball and an integral part of the Astros bullpen.
Pressly was scheduled to enter free agency following this season. He and the team settled on a $2.9 million salary this offseason to avoid an arbitration hearing. The 30-year-old will make $8.75 million in both 2020 and 2021.
